This week we are proud to share our 15th More with Minto - Impact Report, highlighting the environmental, social, and governance initiatives in 2023 and underlining Minto’s industry-leading commitment to ESG. From Canada’s first LEED-certified high-rise condo to the first geo-exchange community in the GTA our commitment to people and planet is not just part of our history but a strong commitment we make for the future.

"As we reflect on our 68-year journey, it's clear that we're not just constructing buildings; we're creating a legacy that will endure. Our commitment to people and the planet is fundamental to our identity. Celebrating the construction of over 100,000 homes and the release of our 15th Impact Report, we are also proud to be recognized as one of Canada's Best Managed Companies," says Michael Waters, Chief Executive Officer, Minto Group. "This achievement reflects our ongoing efforts, not just in the past year, but throughout the years leading up to it."

Over the last seven decades, Minto has stood out in the real estate development industry for our groundbreaking efforts in ESG. Among our many accomplishments, Minto built Canada’s first LEED-certified high-rise condominium and, in 2008, unveiled the country’s first net zero inspiration home. Our longstanding commitment to accountability and transparency through its ESG report is also unique among our peers.

Highlights from the 2023 More with Minto - Impact Report include:

  • Our investments in building a more resilient business: we are safeguarding our future by investing in effective governance, ethical practices, and solid infrastructure. The company is proud of our majority independent board, the success of our 2nd Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion survey, which earned an inclusion score 9.8% above the industry average, and our ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and embed ESG principles into all aspects of our operations.
  • Making a positive impact on the community: Minto recognizes its deep responsibility to the people whose lives it touches as an employer, homebuilder, and rental housing provider. Over the past 11 years, employees have raised $1.5 million for charity. The 23rd annual Minto Dream Home for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) is a proud tradition, and Mentorship @ Minto was implemented this year as one of many programs offered to enhance the employee experience.
  • Helping Canadians by providing attainable housing solutions. With rising costs and population growth, finding affordable housing has grown more challenging. We’re actively supporting initiatives to help people achieve this reality by creating more attainable entry-level homes, adding multi-generational living spaces, and contributing to the supply of affordable rental housing options.
  • Environmental responsibility: As a significant player in a resource-intensive industry, we understand that every action we take impacts the environment. We strive to be a responsible steward of the environment by minimizing waste, consuming less water and energy, lowering emissions, and investing in renewable energy and innovation. We are proud to report that we exceeded building code across Canada by 14.53%. Creating higher quality homes helps create more energy efficient homes. Significant reductions in energy consumption in rental properties have also been achieved, with a 14% drop in energy consumption and an 14% reduction in carbon emissions since 2019 – putting us on the path to achieving our goals of net zero by 2050.
  • Forging a new frontier with wellness-focused new homes, rentals and workplaces. Minto made history in 2023 when we became the first builder in Canada to roll out the WELL for residential program, a pioneering people-centered standard for the built environment. A number of our buildings have also received Fitwel certification, a similar standard for buildings that support the health and wellbeing of their occupants and communities.

This year, our report is also interactive
